Four of six youths nabbed after leading sheriff’s deputy on chase in Wheatfield

Dec. 14 — Four of six juveniles were taken into custody after leading a Niagara County sheriff’s deputy on a chase through Wheatfield and North Tonawanda in a stolen car early Saturday morning.

The sheriff’s office said Deputy Richard Bull was on patrol in the area of ​​Schultz Road in Wheatfield around 4:15 a.m. when he observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation. The car refused to stop after Bull activated his patrol vehicle’s lights and headed north on Schultz, hitting a stop sign at Moyer Road, which became stuck under the vehicle.

The vehicle then fled southbound on Shawnee Road, continuing onto Erie Avenue in NT. After crossing Twin Cities Memorial Highway and driving onto railroad tracks, the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the yard at 525 Wheatfield Street and became stuck on cinder blocks, where six of its occupants fled the vehicle.

Four of the six occupants were detained by patrol units. All occupants were identified as juvenile males. The juvenile’s guardians were notified and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office responded.

The suspect vehicle was stolen from Grand Island on Friday.

The juveniles were charged with third degree criminal possession of stolen property (D Felony), second degree misdemeanor A misdemeanor obstruction of government administration), third degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle (A misdemeanor) and numerous vehicle and traffic citations.

The juveniles were released on citations to their parents, per New York State juvenile arrest procedures.
