Omaha man accused of leading chase, wounding deputies pleads ‘no contest’

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – An Omaha man accused of leading law enforcement in a chasing and injuring three deputies changed his request.

Jake Scripter32, pleaded “no contest” in court Friday to six charges, including operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, theft by receiving $5,000 or more, attempted assault on an officer, burglary and two counts of assault on an officer with a motor vehicle.

He faces up to 47 years in prison.

While Scripter’s bond was originally set at $200,000, he is now being held without bond. A charge of resisting arrest was also dismissed, according to court documents.

He appeared in court in April, where he was formally charged with 11 counts in total.

Scripter is scheduled to be sentenced on January 27, 2025.

On April 11, a special operations team with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office located a stolen vehicle at a gas station near 83rd and Maple Street in Omaha. They observed Scripter — who deputies recognized because he had a felony warrant and was a suspect in a previous burglary — in possession of the car.

When deputies approached Scripter, officials say he got into the vehicle, put it in reverse and hit the gas, hitting a deputy and crashing into two DCSO cruisers before fleeing. Two deputies suffered minor injuries in the incident at the gas station.

After Scripter fled, Omaha police sent their Able-1 helicopter to chase him. Able-1 spotted the stolen vehicle speeding west on Maple Street when it collided with two other cars at the intersection of 90th and Maple.

Scripter continued after the crash, traveling north on 90th Street to Spaulding Street, where he got out of the car and started running. DCSO deputies along with Omaha police officers said they contacted Scripter and attempted to take him into custody, but he resisted.

Authorities were eventually able to get Scripter under control, but another DCSO deputy was injured as a result of his resisting arrest.

DCSO says all three deputies injured in the incident were treated at the hospital and released back to duty.
