Driver charged with felony OVI after hitting median, spinning into ditch on I-90: Westlake Police Blotter

WESTLAKE, Ohio –

Crime OVI: I-90

Witnesses called 911 at 11:30 pm on Nov. 30, reporting that a Ford Explorer had exited I-90 near Dover Center Road.

Police found the wrecked vehicle off the highway in a ditch. Their investigation revealed that the female driver lost control, struck the concrete median and traveled across all lanes and into the ditch.

Elyria, 23, said she was not injured but was unsteady on her feet. She leaned against the car while talking to officers, and an officer caught her when she nearly fell, according to a police department statement. She was arrested for the offense of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Her license was already suspended after her last OVI arrest in July 2024. This was her sixth OVI arrest of 2019, according to police.

She was also charged with driving under suspension and failure to control.

Driving under suspension: Westwood Road

City of Flock license plate readers alerted officers at 3 p.m. on Nov. 27 that a vehicle owned by a woman with a suspended driver’s license and wanted on a traffic warrant had entered the city.

Officers stopped the Kia at Westwood and Canterbury roads and discovered the owner was driving. Officers cited the 57-year-old North Olmsted woman for driving under suspension and her vehicle was towed.

Fairview Park police chose not to pursue her traffic warrant.
