Savona woman arrested on drug charges, Naples man arrested on warrants in Bath

BATH, NY (WETM) — Two passengers in a car police stopped in Bath Wednesday night were arrested after police said they found meth and cocaine on one of them and discovered the other had warrants.

Stephanie N. Short, 36, of Savona, and Jeremiah P. Mendez, 36, of Naples, New York, were arrested on unrelated charges following a traffic stop. The Village of Bath Police Department said officers pulled over the vehicle in which the pair were passengers for a traffic violation on Chestnut Street shortly after 7 p.m. on Dec. 11.

While the car was stopped, police say they learned Mendez had several warrants for his arrest. Officers arrested Mendez and turned him over to the New York Police Department.

According to the Bath Police Department, officers continued their investigation after arresting Mendez and determined that Short had methamphetamine and crack cocaine.

Short was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a class C felony) and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a class A felony). Short was taken to the Steuben County Jail to have her charges read in CAP court and was released.

Mendez is currently being held in the Steuben County Jail on $4,000 cash bail on charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (a Class A Felony), Third Degree Criminal Mischief (a Class E Felony) and criminal mischief in the fourth degree (a class A misdemeanor).
