Employee stabbed at Bluebird Liquor store in Hawthorne – Daily Breeze

An employee at Blue Bird Liquor in Hawthorne, a place known for selling multiple winning lottery tickets, was stabbed during a robbery Friday, Dec. 13, police said.

Hawthorne police officers responded to a call of a shooting at the liquor store around 7:30 p.m. En route, officers were informed that no shots had been fired, but an employee had been stabbed.

Arriving officers learned that an employee was confronted by two individuals who were attempting to flee with stolen items from the store.

The employee was stabbed twice with a knife during the confrontation before the thieves fled. The two men headed north on Hawthorne Boulevard before turning east onto 137th Street out of sight.

Authorities said the employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Blue Bird Liquor Store is known as a lucky spot for South Bay residents. It regularly draws crowds that line up around the building during major jackpots as the store sells out three winning tickets totaling $30 million over the years.
