Ipoh teacher accused of sexually assaulting primary school student

IPOH, 12 Dec. — A co-curricular assistant teacher pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to two charges of physically sexually assaulting a female student at a vernacular school here.

In the first case, Teh Chau Teik, 37, was accused of committing the crime by hugging the 12-year-old girl from behind and kissing her in a classroom at 6.40am on September 11, 2024.

He was also accused of committing a similar act on the girl in another classroom at the school at 6:40 a.m. on September 26, 2024.

The charges were laid under section 14(a) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping on conviction, and under section 16 of the same Act, which provides imprisonment for up to 20 years. five years, and must also be whipped with not less than two strokes of the cane on conviction.

Judge Jean Sharmila Jesudason set bail at RM7,000 and ordered Teh to report to a police station once a month and not to intimidate the witness. She also set January 17 for mention.
