Atlanta police seek suspect in laptop theft investigation

Atlanta police are searching for a man accused of stealing several laptops from a local Office Depot.

Officials say the theft happened Dec. 7 at the store in The District at Howell Mill shopping center on Howell Mill Road.

According to investigators, a man entered the store, took two laptops and left without anyone noticing.

“A silver HP laptop and a black Dell laptop,” said Lt. of Atlanta Police Daniel Genson. “He put one in his jacket and one in his backpack before he went out.”

Investigators were stunned by the murder.

“It’s very unfortunate, especially this time of year when we know there are additional shoppers at these retail locations,” said Lt. Genson. “He didn’t go to great lengths to hide what he was doing.”

The crime was not discovered until the next day.

“And that’s when they noticed those computers were missing from the display,” said Lt. Genson.

Laptops cost several thousand dollars each.

Investigators say the man was wearing a black jacket with the letter “A” printed on it. He was also wearing ripped jeans, a red shirt and a black cap.

Police are warning retailers to be extra vigilant at this time of year.

“Retail thefts this time of year are always on the rise,” said Lt. Daniel Genson of the Atlanta Police Department.

Investigators are asking the public to call the Atlanta Police Department if you can identify the theft suspect at (404) 577-8477.
