Marion County Council to look into the forensic audit

Marion County Council will be asked at its next meeting to hire a forensic auditor to look into the county’s fiscal problems.

Board President Steve Writenour believes there is something wrong, that there are continued delays in getting the 2022 audit done. The board was told Tuesday night that the completion date has been pushed back another month to January. This audit must be completed before the 2023 and 2024 audits can be completed.

Board member Brock Wagoner also raised questions about audit memos dating back to 2016 about a lack of budget oversight.

Finance Committee Chairman Chris Krupp noted that the finding is something that all small units of government face due to staff shortages.

Krupp also noted that the auditor, Wifly, has contacted county offices to further obtain material needed to complete the 2022 audit.
