7 cities, 2 Quezon cities suspend classes due to inclement weather

LUCENA CITY — Due to the threat of heavy rains, nine local government units in the province of Quezon school hours suspended Wednesday.

On their respective Facebook pages, the local governments of Infanta, Pagbilao, Quezon, Lopez, Tagkawayan, Atimonan, Real, Tayabas City and Lucena City announced the suspension of classes from kindergarten to high school due to the inclement weather conditions.

In a 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported heavy to heavy rains affecting Quezon and Camarines Norte.

The agency placed towns in the Polillo group of islands facing the Pacific Ocean, north of Quezon City, under the “orange warning” level.

Another 14 municipalities in mainland Quezon were under the “yellow alert” level.

According to Pagasa, areas under orange rainfall warning would see between 15 mm (mm) and 30 mm of rain in the next three hours, while those under yellow rainfall warning would see between 7.5 mm and 15 mm of rain in the same period. and possible flooding.

In accordance with Order no. 37 of the Department of Education (DepEd) issued in 2022, class suspensions for online and face-to-face classes at all levels are automatically suspended once Pagasa issues any tropical cyclone wind signal, orange or red rainfall warning, or floods.

Schools are also required to suspend classes if Pagasa raises any of the said signals or warnings in the middle of the school day, DepEd added.

Local principals in inclement weather areas may also choose to suspend classes.
