Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith may be getting a second chance at being an NFL head coach after finding success in his current role.

The ESPNs Dan Graziano reported the news about Smith, who landed in Pittsburgh this year after three seasons at the helm of the Atlanta Falcons.

“The Steelers’ success has pushed offensive coordinator Arthur Smith back onto some radar screens in terms of getting a second chance at a head coaching opportunity. My sense is that he’s more likely to be back in the cycle after next season than this one, but Smith was able to do what Sean Payton (and Nathaniel Hackett before him) couldn’t do in Denver: get Russell Wilson to buy in and to play in the Justin Fields offense while Wilson was injured, Smith went 7-10 in each of the Falcons’ three seasons before being fired last season, but had little to do with to work outside of Matt Ryan last season. Don’t be surprised if a team calls to request an interview.”

Last season, Pittsburgh ranked 28th in scoring offense en route to a 10-7 season. This season, the 10-3 Steelers, who are ranked second in the AFC, are 10th in that category. Much credit goes to Smith, who found success as the offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans before taking the head coaching job in Atlanta.
