Tamil Nadu bus driver killed by three masked attackers on bicycles, crime caught on video – Tamil Nadu News

Three masked men killed a bus driver by attacking him with sharp weapons in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur, police said on Sunday. The attack was caught on a nearby CCTV camera.

According to police, 28-year-old Siva of Papanasam died on the spot after being brutally attacked by bike-borne assailants in the middle of a busy street in Ayyampettai area of the city on Saturday.

Siva had parked his bus in the area last night. As he was returning to his vehicle after having tea with the bus conductor, three masked men on a bicycle, who were lying in wait, ambushed him.

CCTV footage showed two of them getting off the bike and repeatedly throwing sharp weapons, apparently machetes, at Siva, causing deep injuries.

Siva fell to the ground, but the attackers kept hitting him with their weapons. The bus driver, who suffered serious injuries to his head, arms and legs, bled profusely and died on the spot, police added. The suspects fled the scene on the same bike before anyone could do anything.

On receiving the information, the police reached the spot, recovered Siva’s body and sent it to the government hospital for post-mortem.

The motive behind the attack is not known and efforts are on to identify the attackers with the help of CCTV footage, police said.

Meanwhile, locals protested against the crime and demanded the immediate arrest of the suspects. The police dispersed the protesters after assuring them that they would take appropriate action in this case.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and an inquiry is underway.
