IT raids on Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir’s office in Kochi- The Week

The Income Tax Department on Thursday launched a raid at the office of Malayalam film actor Soubin Shahir. The raids are also taking place at the offices of Parava Films, Dream Big Films and producer Shawn Antony in connection with the collection of Malayalam superhit film Manjummel Boys.

According to sources, the raid which started in the morning is continuing.

According to IT officials, there were allegations that Soubin failed to file tax returns and hid financial records.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate questioned one of the producers of the film Manjummel Boys. Actor Soubin Shahir was earlier questioned by the ED in connection with financial irregularities.

Parava Films was mired in controversy after Alappuzha native Siraj Valiyaveettil leveled serious allegations against the makers of the film.

Siraj, in his complaint, said he invested Rs 7 crore in the film as he was under the impression that the total budget of the film was Rs 22 crore. Later it was known that the film was shot with a budget of only 18.65 million lei.

He also claimed that he did not receive the promised 40 percent of the total profit share. The police filed a report in the Kerala High Court following investigations.

ED registered a case against the makers of Manjummel Boys after Siraj’s complaint.
