Wichita teenager charged in fatal shooting to be tried as adult

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A Wichita teenager charged in a fatal shooting will be tried as an adult, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office has confirmed.

Elias Cerda was 14 in January when 14-year-old Emoni Shears and 19-year-old Jhiquez Roberts died of gunshot wounds. Cerda is charged with felony murder and being a minor in possession of a firearm.

Cerda’s first appearance as an adult in Sedgwick County District Court is set for Dec. 12. Four other teenagers were arrested on felony charges in the case.
