A fugitive businessman accused of repeatedly raping the minor is evading arrest in Sundargarh | Bhubaneswar News

Rourkela: Sundargarh district police are planning to send a team outside the state to arrest a 49-year-old fugitive businessman accused of repeatedly raping a minor girl for two years.
The accused, who has business interests in Delhi and other locations, has been evading arrest since October. The 17-year-old survivor is the daughter of the accused’s friend and classmate of the businessman’s daughter. The incident first took place when the girl visited his residence to meet her classmate.
While the accused’s wife and daughter were on the ground floor, he allegedly called the teenager to his room on the first floor and sexually assaulted her. He then threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone. Police said the accused continued to exploit the minor’s vulnerability, allegedly sexually assaulting her several times over the past two years. She finally told her father and filed an FIR on October 5.
“The accused is still at large. We cannot reveal the location but a team will soon be sent outside the state to nab him,” said R Swain, inspector.
An earlier attempt to nab the accused proved unsuccessful when a six-member police team returned empty-handed from Delhi last month. Sources said the accused’s mobile phone is switched off, further complicating tracing efforts.
The minor’s statement was recorded before a magistrate.
