A police cruiser catches fire amid a series of crashes on I-185

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus Police are investigating a series of crashes that occurred Tuesday afternoon that resulted in lane closures and significant delays on Interstate 185.

Authorities were first called to a crash northbound near Saint Mary’s around 4 p.m. While officers were on the scene, officials said another vehicle collided with a police cruiser, causing it to catch fire.

According to police, there were other wrecks unrelated to the original crash that resulted in one person being injured and taken to a local hospital.

All lanes of the highway have since reopened.
